Balinese Goddess Figurine — Hand-Carved Hardwood
Mid-Century to Late 20th Century, Indonesian Folk Art
This tall, slender Balinese statue depicts a woman or goddess in traditional attire carrying an elaborate ceremonial offering upon her head. The piece is expertly carved from a single block of tropical hardwood, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship and stylized anatomical forms characteristic of the Balinese woodcarving tradition that flourished in the mid-to-late 20th century.
• Hand-carved from a single piece of solid tropical hardwood with medium-tone finish
• Detailed iconography including traditional sarong and a tiered ceremonial offering vessel
• Stylized elongated form typical of Indonesian sculptural aesthetics from the 1960s-1980s
• Measures approximately 23" tall with a 4.5" wide base as shown in photographs
Condition: Good vintage condition with natural wood grain variations throughout. The base is stable and the structural integrity is excellent. No significant chips or losses noted in the intricate upper carving. Minor surface wear consistent with age and display. A natural drying fissure is visible on the base, which is characteristic of solid wood sculptures of this scale and material.
